This week for my blog, I am going to talk about what exciting and stressful thing that is coming up on Thursday, May 19, 2016. Two weeks ago on Friday, May 6, 2016, we had our first annual making movies that matter presentation. In this, we had to present our movies that we had four weeks to prepare for, so there wasn't that much time to work on our presentation. After a long time making our movie and editing, we finally finished our with only two minutes and fifty nine seconds of running time. Our movie was called "The Nature of Bullying" and was a documentary about all of the other types of bullying, such as cyber bully, physical bully, and verbal bully. In our film, we took turns being the bully and the victim. I think that our film is very funny and that tomorrow, we are going to get a lot of laughs from it. Anyway, we will be going somewhere in CSUN and there will be a competition for each film. If you would like to know about the film I did with other friends, just scroll through my older blogs. Basically in that place there will be free food and a lot of giveaways. I love how the free food will be from Panda Express. I am mostly excited to see which film from our school won, because we had our separate film festival at school I think two weeks ago. I am pretty confident that we won our category in eighth grade and can move on to the next round for our school competition. It would still be really cool even if our group just won the one in our school.

This week for my blog, I am going to talk about what specific and challenging thing that we did on the week of Monday, May 9, 2016 to Thursday, May 12, 2016. On Tuesday, May 10, 2016, we had a quiz on Night. Also, before we took the quiz, we reviewed the section (chapter). I totally forgot about the second part of the section because we focused a lot on the first part of the section. Well I didn’t totally forget about it, I just focused on the first part. Anyway, in the second part of the section, it talked about how Wiesel was beat by a person named Idek. So now, I am going to talk about the test again. The test had eight questions (which thankfully were only multiple choice). Now, I knew all of the answer, but I forgot either one or two answers. Thanks to my memory of the book, I checked my answers and I got both of them right, which was a relief. People died, people got liberated, people got trampled to death, some people were chosen by Dr Mengele to be experimented on. A lot happened so far in the book, but I don't want to spoil it so go read it yourself... or read a summary of it, go here for that. This is so because his father didn’t dare to dodge Idek’s blows and he just sat there and let Idek beat him. So Wiesel was frustrated why his father didn’t do anything, even when Wiesel himself was beaten. Also importantly, people wanted gold teeth because they were valuable. And one time, Franek found out that Wiesel had a gold tooth and he made offers for it. But Wiesel refused, but then Franek beat his father (Wiesel’s weak spot) and forced him to give his gold tooth. Then they went and got a rusty spoon and took it out. Franek gave Wiesel some soup in return, but he would’ve gotten more if he gave it up at first.
This week for my blog, I am going to talk about what thing that we had to do, to get prepared for Friday, May 6, 2016. On Thursday, May 5, 2016, it was our last time filming for our film for Making Movies that Matter. We had this class for more than a month, and now it is over. I really liked doing this because I am passionate about filming. One of my favorite directors in movies is Steven Spielberg and one of my favorite actors is Michael Clarke Duncan (who is actually dead now). You are probably wondering why we have movies for ELA class, well today is your lucky day, because I will now tell you why we have movies in ELA class. Our teacher Mrs. Todesco (who was previously Stronks), said we can write about this because she is in this class with us. In my group, I am paired up with Dylan Courchaine, Zebedee Cataag, and Michael Jimenez. We made a documentary, when all of take turns of being the bully and the victim of each scene. The main purpose of this film is to stop bullying and be the person who helps out the bully. One of the things that I didn't like from this was that it had to be three minutes or less. Specifically because we had to get multiple shots and try to recreate the scene so we can shoot it at another angle, the camera turned out blurry, and we laughed a lot during the shots; which meant we had to re-take it. Another obstacle was editing and putting the movie together. We has to send all of our clips, or airdrop it or whatever we did to get it to Zebedee's I-Pad. And sometimes it came out blurry so we had to find another way to get it. In general, it wasn’t too bad. My favorite part during this class was the re-takes/bloopers. This is so because it was really funny and it will never get old.
This week for my blog, I am going to talk about what thing we did that would effect us for all of our high school years and maybe even college. On Tuesday, April 26, 2016, we had an hour to finish our Diego Baza Essay Scholarship. Instead of doing this at our homes, we had to do this at class and this was called an in class essay. This essay was for the parents of Diego Baza, a former student at St. John Eudes school, who died with a heart disease. Recently, another one of their children died, which is very sad because they have now lost two kids. If I had to deal with this, I would be really sad and wouldn't like to talk with anyone. Also, these kids were the world to their parents and loved them very much. Thankfully, we think of Diego Baza whenever we do the Jump Rope for Heart, which is when we raise money for specialists to find a cure for heart disease. Anyway, our topic for the Diego Baza Essay was “How has our Faith Helped Us Have more Courage?” How has our faith helped us have more courage, this is a question that we ask ourselves a lot. This is a very difficult question to ask because people can be offended by your answers or will just cry because they don't have faith at all. I think that this was a very easy essay because we only had to type only a one page essay and we only had to cover the whole page with our response on “How has our Faith Helped Us Have more Courage?” After I did this, I can't print on my Laptop, which bothers me a lot, so I had to ask a friend if they could print it. Once it did, I suddenly felt bad for the parents of Diego Baza because of their losses.
This week for my blog, I am going to talk about an extraordinary thing that we did and read during ELA class. On Tuesday, April 19, 2016, we started to read the book Night by Elie Wiesel. For those who don't know what the book night is about, well I am going to tell you. Night is about the Holocaust, which is when the Nazis killed most of the Jews because Adolf Hitler wanted to create a race that was superior to everyone, which was blond hair and blue eyed. So far in the book, we have only read up to chapter one, which I guess is not so bad because we only started reading it on Monday. First of all, when I started reading the preface of this book, there was a lot and I mean a lot of words that I have never even heard of before in my life. One of the reasons this was like very hard to comprehend was because there were a bunch of words that were written in Yiddish. For those who don't know what Yiddish is, well it is your stupendous and lucky day because I will now tell you what is Yiddish. Yiddish is the language that the Jews spoke during the Holocaust. So far, in the book Night, there is only one character that I have heard of and that is Moishe the Beadle. Unfortunately, Moishe the Beadle doesn't have a surname, which means that he doesn't have a family name. Also, everyone thinks that he is kind of a weird dude. Now, for homework, we have to do our vocabulary sheet, which isn't very hard. For example, some of the words that are there in the vocabulary sheet are encumbered, surname, insignificant, and treatise. I would totally recommend this book for people who are in eighth grade and above. The reason why I would recommend this book for eighth grade is because this is a very hard-to-watch book and there is a ton of killing in this book because of the Holocaust.
This week for my blog, I am going to talk about what spectacular thing that we did in school, so that it would probably affect us for the rest of our lives. On Wednesday, April 13, 2016, we were told that we going to do a scholarship that was for the death of one of St. John Eudes students, Luke Gaines. When our teacher Mrs. Todesco told us that we were going to do a scholarship essay, we were all confused because of what it would be about. We were all confused because she didn't tell us what it was going to be about yet, even though it was on her website. By the time it was Wednesday, there was a button on her website saying what it was going to be about. We only had an hour to finish a five paragraph essay, so I was really stressed out about doing this essay. The objective of this essay was to write a five paragraph essay of three things that St. John Eudes school has taught you and how you will apply it in the future. For me, the three things that I love about St. John Eudes are that it has taught me to have courage and be brave, always have supports in everything you do, and to never boast. The reason that you need to be brave is so you will gain confidence in yourself and you won't feel bad about yourself. Next, the reason why you need supporters in everything you do is so you won't feel bad about yourself and so you won't be left out. Finally, the reason why you should not boast is because if you do boast, you won't have a lot of friends and nobody will really like you. This is basically what you need in the future and what we needed to have in the 1,000 dollar scholarship for Luke Gaines.
This week for my blog, I will talk about what we watched this week on Tuesday and Wednesday, which was To Kill a Mockingbird. On Tuesday, April 5, 2016, we watched the movie To Kill a Mockingbird. From the part of which our class left off of in the movie, we were at the part of when Tom Robinson was being asked questions by Mr. Gilmer. On a scale of one too ten, the movie is about a 9.5 and I like it a ten. I chose a 9.5 because the only thing that could make to kill a mockingbird better is that it would be in color. In the movie, there were a lot of differences in the book and in the movie. You are probably wondering how is this possible and how can you tell the differences, well if you asked these questions, I am going to explain it now. You have to read the book and watch the movie. Bam! You probably were not expecting that answer, but that pretty much sums it up. Our teacher gave us a question and answer packet, in which we have to answer the questions after we heard the movie. One problem with this that I have trouble remembering things if I watch like only three quarters of the movie. Some of the questions that I had trouble on were the ones that said how is the movie different from the movie. Eventually, thanks to my intellect of the book, I got it and it was as easy as pie. Even though this movie did very well and won a bunch of academy awards, this wouldn't be a movie that I would watch all the time. This wouldn't be a movie I would watch all the time because I like sci-fi and horror films.
This week for my blog, I am going to talk about what thing that we did that was one of the most important things this year. On Tuesday, March 15, 2016, our historical fiction narratives were due. For this, the requirement that we were supposed to have on it was that it has to be at least 3-4 pages, from the 1930' s to 1940's, and it has to be about a thing we have looked over as a class. By the last reason, there wasn't many ideas for me to choose from, so without enthusiasm, I decide to go with The Great Depression. If it wasn't from the 1930's to the 1940's, I would've gone with the Japanese attacking Pearl Harbor. You are probably wondering why the historical fiction narrative has to be from the 1940's to the 1930's, well it is your lucky day because I will tell you. It had to be from those time periods because recently, we read a book that was taken during this time period called To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Sadly, Harper Lee passed away very recently, just after making her second book Go Set A Watchman. Also, during this time, there was a bunch of segregation, racism, and ageism. During the historical fiction narrative, I wrote about what life was like during the Great Depression and how terrible the stock market was. If you are wondering why the Great Depression happened, well I will no tell you. The Great Depression happened because the stock market crashed and couldn't come back up, people lost their jobs, food was scarce, and politics were very bad. This what I wrote about for my historical fiction narrative.
This week for my blog, I will talk about what special or specific thing that we did during English Language Arts class. On Tuesday, March 8, 2016, we talked about Linking Verbs. The class that we were going to be taught about Linking Verbs was ELA or English and Language Arts. Our teacher for ELA or English and Language Arts in Ms. Stronks. When she told us that we were going to go over linking verbs, the only linking verbs that I knew was is, so this was going to be very tricky for me. You might be thinking "Why Linking verbs?" Well, Linking Verbs have a lot for their job. First of all, not all verbs express action. This means that there aren't only action verbs and that there are different types of verbs. A Linking Verb joins the subject with a subject complement. This means that you need a linking verb if there is a subject and that subject is going to be renamed by something. For those who do not know what a subject complement is, well it is your lucky day because I will now tell you what a subject complement is about. A subject complement is a noun or pronoun that renames the subject or an adjective that describes a subject. What this means is that a subject complement can either be a person, place, thing or a short term word that is used to describe someone. For example, some linking verbs that I know now are: is, are, was, were, been, and am. Also, if you want me to go in detail with other common linking verbs, they are: smell, look, taster, remain, feel, appear, sound, seem, become, grow, stand, and turn. In addition, an example is Jerry Shaughnessy and Nicholas Nicolai's name remain famous in the eating industry. The linking verb is this sentence is remain.
This week for my blog, I will now talk about the final chapters of To Kill A Mockingbird, which were from chapters twenty-nine to chapters thirty-one. Yesterday, on Monday, February 29, 2016, we started to read chapter twenty-seven of To Kill A Mockingbird. Well, I read ahead and finished the whole book of To Kill A Mockingbird, so I will now talk about what happened in those specific chapters. In chapter twenty eight, it talks about how Scout is in a pageant and nobody can take her. At first, she asks Atticus and he says he is too tired and then she asks Aunt Alexandra and she says the same thing as Atticus says. Then Atticus says that Jem can probably take you if you ask, so Scout asked Jem and he said yes. When they were walking together, it was very dark and they start talking about hot steams and things that aren't true. Finally, when they get there, Cecil Jacobs scares Jem and Scout and asks both of them if they are scared of Boo Radley, then why are you going off alone in the dark.
Scout responds with nobody could take her and Jem was the only one who could take her. While, Cecil Jacobs and Scout go around the school, they talk about what they are going to be for the pageant. So, Cecil Jacobs is going to be a cow and Scout (Jean Louise) is a ham or pork. During the pageant, Scout accidentally falls asleep and the person in charge has to call "pork" three times to make sure she comes, but she comes at the wrong time, which adds more fuel to the fire. After the pageant, the person in charge of the pageant tells Scout that she ruined her performance, which makes Scout feel bad. Thankfully, Jem sticks up for Scout and tells her that you did good but got a late start. I would talk about more chapters, but I have reached the end of my blog. |
